Rozita Watheqi denied leave from Mashhad prison

HRANA, November 6

Rozita Watheqi ( رزیتا واثقی ), a Bahai serving a 5-year sentence in Vakil Abad prison in Mashhad, has been denied leave from prison, although she has served more than half of her sentence. Prison officials have approved the leave, but the Ministry of Intelligence’s is preventing it being granted. She was arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence in March 2010, and pressured to sign a promise not to teach the Bahai Faith, which she refused to do. She was then subjected to six months of harsh interrogation in the Ministry of Intelligence’s facilities before being transferred to Vakil Abad prison. By that time she was in a very weak condition. She shares her imprisonment there with her mother, who is old and ill.
