Aziz Samandari begins his 5-year sentence

Iran Press Watch, July 21

Aziz Samandari, a 40 year-old Baha’i IT specialist, was arrested on 7 July 2012 in his home in Tehran, to begin serving his 5-year prison sentence, in Evin prison. he was sentenced in October 2011 after a 10-minute trial, in which the only question he was asked was whether he belonged to the Baha’i community. The very short judgment – which was read out but not handed over – speaks of his “active membership in the misguided Baha’i sect” and his association with the Baha’i Institute for Higher Education.
