Bahai student expelled from Tehran University


HRANA, July 4

Mithaq Afshar ( میثاق افشار ), a student of political science at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran and a member of the PCED has been expelled after eight semesters of study. The expulsion order was signed by the deputy head of the University Disciplinary Council, and stated that he lacked “general suitability” as a student. In response to further enquiries, he was informed that the decision had been taken at the orders of the Ministry of Intelligence. Mithaq Afshar was one of a few Bahai students who were able to compete in the University Admissions Examination in 2008. He was accepted as a student of political science at Tehran University. On February 17, 2011, at 2 a.m., his home was raided by security forces, who seized his personal possessions and arrested him. He was held in Evin Prison in Tehran for 28 days.
